In what could be considered a walk in the park on paper turned out to be a very physical and fast-paced battle between the 2 teams manning the top and bottom spot of the league.
Wythenshawe looked to defend their winning streak and extend their impressive streak to 9 games in a row (8, since Carrington has dropped from the league) and Aldwinians playing for pride, with nothing to lose and everything to gain.
The match started with both teams respecting each other's talent and prowess. However, in typical Wythenshawe fashion, they took 10 minutes to get their heads into the game and conceded twice to Aldwinians taking advantage from a lineout maul to score the first try and took advantage of a penalty from the 40-meter line to break through the hazy Wythenshawe defence.
11 minutes in, Wythenshawe woke up and managed to score 2 tries of their own in quick succession courtesy of Javi Manzanares and Reece Cleary. Ashley Williams put an end to the 10-minute deadlock after going on a heroic run in the 26th minute, breaking through several Aldwinian players and grinding his way to the try line with several more Aldwinian players attempting to hold him back.
Javi Manzanares found himself on the scoresheet again just before halftime, ending the first half 10-24 to Wythenshawe.
The 2nd half began with both teams fired up and ready for war. However, the Wythenshawe men found their rhythm quickly and set a pace too quick for the Aldwinian men to match with Connor Whalen scoring in the 48th minute after an impressively fast and dynamic run and scored again just 4 minutes later in a similar fashion.
Aldwinians seemed to have settled down at this point and tried to find an answer to the Wythenshawe offence by pushing several pack-heavy mauls after each lineout, Wythenshawe initially struggled to find a way to push the pack back and opted for a stalemate with players flaking off to tackle any Aldwinian players peeling away and making a run. This plan seemed to work when the Wythenshawe men were able to turn things around and push to ball forward into the Aldwinian half for Matthew Tomlinson to score a try after catching a difficult pass.
Wythenshawe's Connor Whalen went on to prove that the speed and pace set by Wythenshawe was too much for Aldwinians to answer by scoring 63 minutes in and again and 66-minute mark.
Reece Cleary managed to get himself another try on the scoresheet before Aldwinians pushed hard after a penalty at the Wythenshawe 5-meter mark and bagged themselves another try at the 77th minute.
Full time score: Aldwinians 17 - 55 Wythenshawe
