Wythenshawe @ Manchester 3rd XV – 13/12/25
“If the team don’t score a lot against us then we have a chance of winning.” – Unknown
Wythenshawe travelled the short distance to Manchester Rugby Club for their final away game of 2025, facing bottom-of-the-table Manchester 3rd XV. After struggling for numbers the previous week, Shawe arrived with a strong squad ready to get back to winning ways.
Despite early indiscipline and a yellow card, Wythenshawe struck first. Strong scrum work saw Jack Cobane break before offloading to Adam McLoughlin, who danced through the defence to score under the posts. Manchester responded to level the scores, but Shawe finished the half strongly with Jack Farrell breaking through from full-back. Mikey Kilcourse converted both tries to give Wythenshawe a 14–7 lead at the break.
The halftime message was simple: discipline and ball retention. The response was immediate, with Lewis Fearon finishing a flowing move he started himself. Further tries followed from Jack Flannagan, Adam McLoughlin (his second), and Oli Scott, as Shawe controlled the second half and pulled clear.
Final score: Manchester 7 – 38 Wythenshawe.
A much-improved second-half performance and a deserved win. Standout performances came from Oli Scott, Jake Farrell, Alex Birkett and Jack Flannagan, with Man of the Match going to Adam.
Man of the Match went to Adam McLoughlin for a huge all-round performance: 2 tries, 2 assists, and impressively covering two different positions. His support play was outstanding throughout, constantly in the right place at the right time, and he backed it up with a solid defensive shift to cap off a complete display.
Next week Shawe finish the year at home at Painswick Park, hosting Aldwinians 3rd XV (2:15pm kick-off).
