Networking With Local Rugby Clubs;
For the last three years we have been developing relationships with local clubs who are
willing to help us and who see our goal, those who do not to steel our better players…
This last season has seen the minis & juniors team up with Didsbury Toc-H, Burnage and
Altrincham Kersal with great effect, our U14s have had regular training sessions and
games with AK and now even have a joint Wats App group! All three of these clubs,
particularly AK have offered us a “leg-up” in order to ensure that our quest to provide
rugby for the young people in Wythenshawe succeeds.
Colts Rugby;
One of the conception mission targets set when the club was formed was to transition
players from the minis & juniors to the first team to ensure the long term future of the
rugby project in Wythenshawe, we have already had a couple of young men who were
there at the birth of the club who now play regularly for the first team.
From the very first training session at MEA which gave the youngsters of Wythenshawe
their first taste of rugby and got them hooked on the game, we have SIX young men
who will be playing regular and competitive ‘Colts’ rugby with Altrincham Kersal RFC,
they will form part of the AK squad for the forthcoming Junior Colts season and so are
assured plenty of game time.
The club will continue to support these players, financially for membership and
practically in watching them train and play and providing lifts!
Life After Covid19:
Government and RFU guidance on the return to rugby MUST be followed.
Light training/running for first team has commenced 06 June 2020 all in
line with latest government/RFU “social distancing” guide lines.
Safeguarding:
The WCRUFC safeguarding group need to pen a letter that can be issued to all
players, parents and members at the start of the 2020/2021 season to introduce
themselves and provide contact numbers.
DBS all up to date.
New Home At Painswick Park:
WCRUFC along with Benchill Celtic FC have formerly requested use of Painswick
Park for multi sports year round use to Manchester City Council.
As part of the rugby league legacy commitment, Wythenshawe CRUFC will begin
to provide rugby league during the summer months to promote rugby league
ahead of the 2021 world cup which will be held in the north of England.
First Team Coach:
The club still wishes to recruit a head coach for our first team.
Senior player recruitment drive to be implemented prior to 2020/2021 season.
Junior Coaches:
Coach recruitment in line with RFU guidelines is vital.
Girls coach needed.
Player recruitment drive for 2020/2021 season yet to be agreed. RFU will
continue to assist with this process in local schools.
Social Media:
An independent report on our current media has been carried out.
The committee wish to seek volunteer(s) to take up the media role for the club.
Sale Sharks Community Trust:
The club continues to have a good and strong relationship with Sale Sharks at all
levels of their organisation.
WCRUFC Chosen Charity For 2019/2020 Season:
Given that many events for this season’s charity have been curtailed by the
coronavirus outbreak, the club intends to see out these commitments before
selecting a new charity for the club to sponsor.
Once revised dates are confirmed, the club will promote these events and invite
as many people as possible to attend/take part.
New Kit Supplier & Branding for 2020/2021:
The club have identified a new supplier and have explored changing the club
crest/branding to serve both Rugby Union and Rugby League.
Stronger relationship to be built with Manchester Health Academy P.E. team.
Next bag pack(s) and/or club fundraising?
Sports Forum Group growth and club participation can add much to our club and
strength to our fundraising and player recruitment.
Walking Rugby:
Walking rugby in 2020 has been a roaring success! We will return as soon as
government/RFU guidance allow. ALL ages and abilities welcome to our fully inclusive
sessions every Tuesday evening from 7:00pm.
Finally:
A special mention to Adam, Ashley and Reece for delivering the first team’s
commitments and maintaining our league status without a head coach in place for the
majority of the season, very well done chaps!
Best Wishes,
Charlie McNamara.
WCRUFC Club Chairman 2019/2020.
